Move Website Off Wix | Upgrade Your Local Business Brand
Learn why Wix can work for getting started but often holds back local businesses that need more trust, speed, and conversions.
If you get referred, you still have to “look real” online.
Most of your new customers don’t hire you the second they hear your name. They hear your name, then they research you. They Google you. They click around. They look for proof. And they decide fast.
I’ve done the same thing. I moved to a new city and friends kept recommending barbershops. I wanted to trust them, but I couldn’t find photos online that showed the quality of the cuts. So I didn’t go. I picked someone else.
That’s how people buy now. They collect a few recommendations, compare them online, and go with the service that makes them feel the most comfortable.
So when I say “upgrade your brand,” I’m talking about one thing.
Trust.

Wix works when you’re starting
If you built your site on Wix, I’m not here to shame you.
A lot of business owners are bootstrapped. You’re protecting your capital. You’re trying to build something for your family. You need to see results without feeling like your whole wallet’s on the line.
Wix can help you get online. The problem is what happens after.
Most DIY sites don’t fail because the owner is incapable. They fail because the owner is busy. Your expertise is the work you do every day, not building websites, writing conversion copy, or thinking about how buyers make decisions online.
And once the site is “good enough,” it sits there. No updates. No new photos. No fresh reviews. No clear path to book you.
That’s where referrals start dying.
Trust happens fast
People love to say, “My customers are different. They don’t care about websites.”
They do. Even if they don’t admit it.
Users form a first impression in as little as 50 milliseconds [web:30]. And around 84% say website design is the top reason they trust a business [web:33].
So if your site looks outdated, cluttered, or generic, the buyer’s brain does something simple. They question your quality.
That is why I say this a lot: if the website doesn’t match the quality of their work, buyers lose trust and faith in their quality of work.
The 30-second test
When someone lands on your homepage, I want them to clearly understand what you do immediately in the first 30 seconds.
That sounds basic, but it’s rare.
Most people don’t read your whole website anyway. They scan. Studies show visitors only read about 20 - 28% of the words on a page [web:32].
So your homepage needs to hit three things right away.
Where are you located? What do you do? How do I book you right now?
That’s the backbone of a converting local service site.
Mobile-first matters now
A lot of your customers are finding you on a phone while they’re stressed. A pipe burst. The AC is out. A tenant is calling. A storm just hit the roof.
And when someone searches “near me,” they move quick. About 76% of mobile users who search something “near me” visit a business within a day [web:35].
If your mobile site is hard to use, you don’t just lose a click. You lose the job.
Mobile-friendly also impacts whether people come back. Around 74% say mobile-friendliness makes them more likely to revisit a site [web:34].
Speed matters too
If your site is slow, people bounce. They don’t wait.
A 1-second delay in mobile load time can increase bounce rate by up to 123% [web:34].
That’s not “tech stuff.” That’s money.
Where Wix sites leak trust
When business owners tell me, “George, I have a website, but it’s not doing anything,” it usually comes down to a few simple issues.
The site might have information, but it’s not walking your ideal customer through a journey. It’s not optimized to convert.
And a lot of the time, it’s overloaded. Too many sections. Too much text. Too many different calls to action. People get overwhelmed and leave.
I also see sites that try to look like every other company in the area. Same layout. Same stock photos. Same generic wording.
That’s where I push hard on custom, because local competition is real. You need to stand out.
The “my nephew can do it” trap
I hear this all the time: “My nephew can build me a site on Wix for free.”
If your nephew builds it this week, keeps it updated, and understands conversion, that’s a win.
But most of the time, it never ships. If it hasn’t been built in the last six months, it probably won’t be built in the next six months. Life gets busy. People forget. Your business sits there waiting.
Even when it does get built, it usually turns into a “pretty” website that doesn’t bring in business. The photos are random. The copy is generic. There’s no structure for how a buyer thinks.
You don’t need a website that exists. You need a website that’s consistently selling for you 24 seven.
Stock photos kill trust
If I see stock photos of people shaking hands, I already know what happened.
Someone rushed. Someone filled space. Someone didn’t tell the truth visually.
Local customers want real proof. Real projects. Real faces. Real trucks. Real crews. Real before-and-after photos.
If you don’t have photos yet, fine. We can start with what you have and build a plan to collect better ones. But a site full of filler doesn’t help a buyer trust you.
Your story still matters
Business owners are proud of what they built. You should be.
A lot of you want to lead with, “Founded in 1995,” and list your whole history on the homepage. I’m not going to tell you to delete your story. I just don’t want it blocking the booking.
So I keep the homepage focused on service area, services, and contact. Then we create other pages for your story, your mission, and deeper details.
That way you protect conversions and you protect your legacy.
Reviews are the fastest trust builder
If you want the quickest upgrade to your online reputation, get serious about reviews.
About 97% of consumers read online reviews for local businesses [web:17]. That’s almost everyone.
And reviews don’t just “help.” They change trust.
When reviews are positive, 74% trust a business more [web:33]. When reviews are negative, 60% question the quality [web:33].
People also treat reviews like word of mouth now. Around 84% trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations [web:33].
And here’s the part that hurts if you ignore it. Nearly 47% won’t use a business with fewer than 20 reviews [web:17]. Then you’ve got buyers who are picky about ratings too. About 31% only choose 4.5+ [web:17].
Reviews are a system. Not a hope.
My simple review script
The best time to ask for a review is right after you finish the job, when the customer is happiest.
I tell owners to keep it simple and make it worth the customer’s time. Create a coupon code and offer a discount on their next appointment if they leave a review.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be consistent.
If you want to get smart with it, pay attention to what customers type. If they naturally mention the service you did and the city, that helps. And if you care about keywords, you can guide it without sounding weird.
The goal is fresh reviews too. About 74% only consider reviews written in the last three months [web:17].
So don’t let your reviews go stale.
Don’t lose a lead
I’ve heard stories of companies that have been operating for 20 years. They’re legit. They do great work.
But the customer gets referred, looks them up, and can’t find much. Or they call and nobody answers because the owner is busy. So they move on to the next referral.
That’s why your website matters even if you’re “word of mouth.” Word of mouth still gets verified online.
Speed-to-lead is real, and I’m not here to judge you for being busy. You’re working.
So we build sites with clear tap-to-call buttons, contact forms, and booking paths that work when you can’t pick up.
We also offer an add-on that can answer phone calls and book appointments on your behalf. Some owners want that because they’re tired of missing good leads while they’re on a job.
I’m also careful about chatbots. In local services, they can be a conversion killer. When someone has an emergency, they want a human. Sometimes people just want to talk to people.
Moving off Wix without losing traffic
This is the biggest fear I hear.
“George, if I move my site off Wix, am I going to disappear on Google?”
That fear is valid. You’ve earned whatever visibility you have. You don’t want to reset it.
So when we migrate a client, my first tactical step is simple.
We look at what pages you’re currently ranking for keywords and replicate those pages on the new site. That’s how we transfer traffic and protect what’s already working.
Then we rebuild the rest of the site around conversion. Better structure. Better flow. Better proof. Better mobile experience.
Domain, hosting, SSL
I don’t like hiding behind tech terms. You deserve to understand what you’re paying for.
Your domain is your identity. It’s your name on the internet.
Hosting is what puts that name online so people can find it.
SSL is security. It keeps the site safe and follows best practices, so customers aren’t seeing warnings.
At WeGotSites, your .com domain is included. We handle purchase, registration, and renewals. If you already own it, we connect it for you.
Hosting is included too, with SSL protection, daily backups, and a 99.9% uptime standard. You shouldn’t have to juggle three different vendors just to keep your website alive.
Why I built WeGotSites this way
I’ve been building startups for a long time. I spent years focused on VC-backed companies. I’ve worked in AI and SaaS, and I’m a co-founder and Head of marketing at an AI company.
But everything I learned over the last decade pulled me in a different direction.
Small businesses are the backbone of the US. They’re owned by regular people. Families. A lot of them come from minority backgrounds. A lot of them didn’t grow up with the same resources and connections.
I’m in that group. I came from a family that didn’t have a lot of resources. I had to work harder to get opportunities that people just wake up with.
So I see this as my mission. I want small businesses to win in the long term, especially as enterprise and mid-market companies get more tech-enabled and AI-driven.
I don’t want local businesses left behind.
Pricing that doesn’t put your family budget at risk
Traditional agencies usually charge $3,000 to $10,000 upfront. Then they tack on monthly fees. Then you’re stuck with a contract.
For a million-dollar company, that might be fine.
For a bootstrapped local business, that can be the difference between paying bills and going into debt. That money might be groceries. Tuition. Rent. Payroll.
So I built WeGotSites to waive that upfront payment to make websites accessible to any small business in the market.
Our pricing stays simple. It’s $60 to $199 a month, with $0 upfront costs. No contracts. Cancel anytime.
You shouldn’t have to gamble your family budget to look professional online.
No contracts
Some agencies lock people in because they don’t want you to leave. They want to continue to get rich off you at any expense.
I don’t like that.
If you’re not happy, you should be able to cancel. Simple.
That forces us to earn your business every month.
What working with WeGotSites looks like
I don’t do complicated. I talk to you like a regular person.
I want to know what you do, where you work, and what matters to you. Then we build around that.
And when we meet on video, my camera is on. Human connection matters. Trust matters.
The free preview
A lot of business owners have been burned. They paid $2,000. They paid $600. They paid something. They didn’t like the site. They couldn’t get edits. They felt stuck.
I had a client who wasted $2,000 on an agency that built a poor website and refused to make edits. They were frustrated, and I understood it.
So I told them exactly what I tell anyone in that situation. We’ll rebuild your whole website from scratch. We’ll give you a free preview. You have to make no investment.
That’s how I remove the risk and fear.
You apply for a preview, we build a custom version of your site, and we walk you through it on a 20-minute call. If you like it, you choose a plan and launch. If you don’t like it, you pay nothing.
That’s not desperation. That’s confidence in the work.
It also works. We convert roughly 90% of preview calls into paid subscriptions because people see a site that reflects their business. It’s personal. It’s custom. It shows real value.
Custom-coded and controlled
We don’t build on WordPress or Webflow. We custom-code our websites so we have as much control as possible, and we keep costs low for customers.
Our team has experts who have spent more than a decade building websites, and they know what works.
Updates and refreshes without nickel-and-diming you
Local businesses change fast. Photos change. Services change. Specials change. Team members change.
So we include unlimited updates for text and photos. You can message us what you need, and we handle it. You shouldn’t feel like you’re bothering someone.
We also offer different plan levels depending on how much you need. The Essential Presence plan is a one-page custom website with two design refreshes per year. Business Growth gives you up to five pages, includes business email, and gives you quarterly refreshes. Full Service goes up to ten pages, includes business email, and gives you monthly refreshes with bigger layout updates.
If you want to change the background color five times, we’ll talk through it. We’re clear about what’s included and what requires an upgrade, so there’s no miscommunication. The goal is still the same. Make you happy and get you what you need.
And if it’s Friday at 4 p.m. and something goes wrong, nobody gets ignored. Our team is specialized. Developers watch uptime. Sales handles communication. We’re built to support you.
If you stay on Wix for now
If moving off Wix feels like a lot right now, you can still make your current site better quickly.
Start by tightening your homepage. Put your service area near the top. Make it obvious. Don’t make people hunt for it.
Then make contact easy. Add a tap-to-call button. Add a simple quote request form. Put both above the fold so they show up before someone scrolls.
Next, get real photos on the page. Even if you only have a few. Show the work. Show the team. Show the truck. Proof beats paragraphs.
After that, simplify. If your homepage feels like a wall of text, cut it down. Remember, most people scan. They need clarity, not a novel.
Finally, build a review habit. Ask right after the job. Incentivize it with a discount on the next service. Stay consistent so your reviews stay fresh.
Those changes alone can upgrade trust, even before you rebuild.
You deserve a chance to win
I’m focused on one thing: making technology and resources accessible for everyone.
You don’t need to be an “internet person.” You don’t need AI literacy. You don’t need to risk thousands of dollars upfront.
You deserve a chance to win.
If you want to see what your business looks like off Wix before you pay a cent, apply for a free preview. We’ll build it, walk you through it, and you decide.
Thanks, George Suarez Founder, WeGotSites
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my business go offline while we move away from Wix?
No, you won’t miss a single lead. We build your new custom-coded site on our servers first. Your Wix site stays live until the exact moment we launch the new one. A 1-second delay can increase bounce rates by 123% [web:34], so we ensure the transition is instant and seamless.
What happens to my custom business email if I leave Wix?
If you manage your email through Wix, we will help you securely migrate it so you never lose a client message. Our Business Growth plans actually include branded business email. We handle the entire technical setup so you can stay focused on running your business, not wrestling with tech support.
Do I lose my photos and written content when I cancel Wix?
Not on our watch. Before you cancel your Wix subscription, we extract your real photos, reviews, and text. We use those exact assets to build your free preview. Local customers want real proof of your work, so we make sure your hard-earned history moves over to the new site perfectly.
I am slammed with jobs. How much of my time will this switch take?
Almost none. You are busy running your business, so we do the heavy lifting. You just apply for a free preview, let us build it, and jump on a quick 20-minute video call to review it. We handle the design, coding, and domain transfer. You just tell us if you like it.
Will moving off Wix actually get me more local calls?
Yes, because we build for trust and speed. Around 76% of mobile users searching “near me” visit within a day [web:35]. Wix templates often load slowly on phones. We custom-code your site to load instantly and clearly show how to book you, turning those fast mobile clicks into paying jobs.
